Mary Taylor, CPA
Auditor of State
Mary Taylor is the first certified public accountant to serve
as Ohio's Auditor of State. She previously served two terms in the Ohio House
of Representatives
where she sat on several committees including the House Finance, Ways and Means,
and Education Committees. Taylor began her career in public service as a City
Councilwoman in Green, Ohio. She and her husband Don have lived in Green for
the past 19 years. The Taylor's have two sons, Joe and Michael, ages 15 and
12.
Auditor
Taylor obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in
taxation from the University of Akron. Taylor began her career
in 1990 with
Deloitte and Touche, later joining the regional firm of Bober Markey Fedorovich & Company
in 1994, where she served as director of the firm's tax department and a senior
manager of the employee benefits practice prior to serving in the state legislature.
Taylor is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants and the Ohio Society of CPAs, where she formerly served as a Director
for the
Akron/Canton Chapter and a chair of the Professional Forums Committee. During
Taylor's service in the state legislature, she received the Watchdog of the
Treasury award and the National Federation of Independent Business 2006 Guardian
of Small
Business award. Taylor is also a 2003 graduate of the BOWHAY Institute for
Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) program. In addition, Taylor is
a former adjunct
professor at Walsh University where she taught accounting courses.
Taylor was
sworn into office as Ohio's 31st Auditor of State on January 8th, 2007.
